Make your own DIY Essential Oil Aromatherapy Play Dough
diy kids activities
With the third wonderful lockdown upon us, the cold weather is here and our little munchkins need our support now more than ever.
Whilst the cold weather is usually the perfect excuse to stay indoors, keeping out little ones safe is now paramount.Anxiety is higher than usual, as well as lack of routines affecting behaviour, this is where essential oils come in....Entertain your kids this season by turning play time into learning time by making aromatherapy play dough! We have a huge box of doTERRA oils at home, which gives us a slightly wider selection of oils to choose from other than what we have mentioned below. You can use this activity as a great way for children to learn about aromatherapy and essential oils.By choosing from a variety of oils kids can learn the health benefits using a variety of oils and colours to help kids learn new scents. After they have learnt the basics they can then become confident to choose their own scents and will begin to follow their intuition. Phoebe is often draen to lavender, this i because she is aware that it helps calm & soothe her and it is naturally a scent her body has become in tune with. Some fun essential oils could include: Wild Orange, Peppermint, Lemon Eucalyptus, or Lavender.
2 cups plain flour - gluten free for us Coeliacs!
2 cups coloured water - be sure to use a good quality food colouring here so that you do not stain your hands. If you use a paste, use tiny amount at a time... a little goes a long way!
1 cup salt
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
5 drops of essential oils
Combine all ingredients, except for essential oils, in a large saucepan and stir until combined.
Once combined, put over medium heat. Using a spatula, continue to stir ingredients together until it forms a ball. Note: Don’t overcook as it will lead to dry play dough.
Remove from heat and cool on parchment paper.
Once cool, add five drops of your favorite essential oil and knead until thoroughly combined.
You’re done! Just store in an air-tight container in the refrigerator for months of fun.
